Introduction
In the latest years we all have been assisting to a progressive and growing interest in the environmental thematic, particularly within the Automotive market, further to the recent international crisis as well as to the governmental push to the production of vehicles characterized by low consumption and low environmental impact.
In order to fight and limit the damages to the environment, all countries are undertaking actions to keep the situation under control, starting research projects aimed at understanding the causes of the various macro-phenomena, with the purpose to launch appropriate plans in order to contrast and reduce the negative environmental impacts.
In this context, the ISO 14001 Standard has been given birth by the need to supply an effective instrument to the Enterprises aiming at the integration of the environmental aspect in their own production strategies , with the main purpose to lower the risks of pollution connected to a bad environmental attitude.
The ISO 14001 Standard is therefore, in few words, the instrument to :
- create an active participation to the protection of the environment
- eliminate the interest contrapositions between environment and enterprise
- increase the efficiency of the processes, by lowering the costs and making the environmental aspect an opportunity of growth for the enterprises.
SICMAT Commitment
The respect for the environment as well as the continuous improvement of its protection are priorities for the whole staff of SICMAT S.p.A.
In order to allow the implementation and the continuous improvement of an Environmental Management System, in compliance with the international Standard ISO 14001: 2004, the whole SICMAT S.p.A. staff commits itself to meet the following directives :
- To identify and reduce the impacts on the environment.
- To assure and check that all SICMAT S.p.A. activities are compliant with the laws and the regulations in force regarding the environment, ensuring the respect and the application of the rules willingly adopted by SICMAT S.p.A. as well.
- To reduce the direct environmental impacts by means of the implementation of working instructions aimed at checking the most meaningful activities for the surrounding environment and for the deputed employees.
- To adopt, whenever possible, the best available technological solutions, to increase the reliability of the installations and to improve their maintenance so to prevent/reduce the environmental impacts.
- To monitor the indirect environmental impacts by means of the definition of qualification standards for the suppliers and, in case of need, through audits to be held at their facilities.
- To reduce whichever kind of power consumption and to optimize the use of natural resources (water, electric power, fuel, a.s.o.).
- To favour the cooperation with external enterprises which operate taking care of the environmental thematic like SICMAT S.p.A.
- To implement a measuring system so to check the continuous improvement of the following aspects : quantity of waste, electric power and fuels consumption.
- To launch a training and awareness plan involving all human resources of SICMAT S.p.A. so to achieve the highest levels of professional skill as well as of responsibility towards the environment.
